Vantage Points – Fall Edition

Dear Friends,

I love pumpkin pie, especially with some whipped cream. Our family’s favorite recipe, though, is on the pie plate. You quickly get the picture. If the baker is not prepared, the recipe is lost when the crust is placed. The same process holds true for legal issues as baking issues. Good, or even great, results require preparation.

Our articles this fall season are all about preparation. Gary Matthews, one of our litigation attorneys, has addressed pre-empting and winning claims against your business for poor or inadequate service, which is a must read for so many of our service-oriented clients. Michael Estep, in our labor and employment section, introduces the surging area of “family care discrimination” so that you can be prepared for your ongoing employee evaluations. Our third article provides insight into leasing arrangements, which are a growing part of our litigation practice. Arnold Janicker, another one of our litigation attorneys, has addressed a pitfall that you can avoid.

Finally, our law firm of 75 years also is preparing for the future. Nathanial Kuratomi, who we usually call “Nate,” has joined us as our newest associate. He is based in our litigation section, and also is busy assisting in both business contract and workers compensation matters. More on his bio is below. Please welcome him back to Huntington!

We thank you, our clients and friends, for your support throughout 2006. Please contact me with your ideas for future articles. We hope you have a great holiday abundant with family, friends, laughter and . . . pumpkin pie.

Warmly,

Barry
